The appearance of new video shooting methods and the easier access nowadays to those tools that years ago were just top profesional stuff, are raising dramatically the quality of videos and improving the visibility of our sport to new spectators all around the world. This is something so important for the future of paddling that we should be happy of being able to enjoy it. Today, we are leaving here a good example. The video summary of the competitions during 2014 in Portugal made by its national federation:

The 3rd race in the ADT SeaDog Paddle Series - brought to you by Chalford Wealth! 

A light South East wind provided loads of fun runs inside the famous Fish Hoek bay as paddlers diced it out over the 8km course. Well done to Dawid and Nikki Mocke who took line honours.

Preparing 2015

These videos of the three days of the Dusi Canoe Marathon are just science-fiction for Spanish paddlers, so we keep feeding the growing enthusiasm in our country for South Africa's biggest races. Charles Evans: forgotten biography of a late ‘60s Marathon paddler (II): Sella Descent video 1968

If you remember our quest  about Dr. Charles Evans (in this article by Nick Harding in Sportscene), slowly we are finding new clues and documents about his pass through Spain. Yesterday, thanks to Juan Manuel Feliz, winner in K2 of the Sella Descent in 1968, we got this old piece of the official news that every week were broadcasted in cinemas around Spain by Franco's dictatorship. In it, after minute 7:00, we can see in colour images a report on the Sella Descent, where Feliz & Gutiérrez win the K2 and Dr. Charles Evans (#57) wins in K1. Dr. Evans has already watched it yesterday, at his home, and was so happy with it, as it's the first time he has seen himself paddling in motion. And that makes us all so happy too.

As a curiosity, in the Spain of the late '60s, canoeing was sharing the news with Julio Iglesias and the stadium Santiago Bernabéu... At least, pictoresque.

Training the 1.000 metres in the gym (II), by Pepe Mota

This time we use the "broken" 1.000 metres system: 4 series of 250 m. on Kayaergometer alterned with TRX traction.

Winter training for 1.000 meters

It's winter time (and if you're in the Southern hemisphere... it will be, sometime...) and many times you find difficult to go paddling because of the few hours of daylight, cold, bad weather, work schedules, etc. The gym becomes then one of the most demanded training places. Nowadays, technics and apparels have developed into a wide range of possibilities, starting from the great kayakergometres to more simple but useful items like the TRX, the Fitball or the Bosu, these last two very used in Pilates training.

In this video, our good friend Pepe Mota, former National Junior Team Coach in Spain and one of our Master's specialists now in the 1.000 metres, shows from his Gym in Madrid (website http://pilatesvida.com) how to combine strength and balance, something so important in our sport, in some gym exercises, starting with TRX, Bosu and Fitball and then doing a 1.000 in the Kayakergometer at position 5. He recomends to do it three times in a row (sorry, just Spanish subtitles this time).

Miller's Run Downwind with Oscar Chalupsky and Rob Mousley

One of the best videos I've seen this year is this wonderful shoot of the Miller's Run Downwind, from Miller's Point to Fish Hoek (Cape Town, South Africa), made by Rob Mousley (creator of the compulsory visit web surfski.info) on board of a SS2 with legend Oscar Chalupsky. No music, so great atmosphere and an real on-board-feeling for ten minutes. A film to sit down, take notes and learn...

The olympic stars shine in Duisburg

One of the most beautiful and reliable regatta courses in the world, the one of Duisburg (Germany), brought us this last weekend many great races at Sprint World Cup 2.

But out of all the disciplines and distances, in Elite Kayak we have a special predilection on the K1 1.000 Men, where actually meet all those considered like “the big ones”. And not many of them usually miss the competitions, always with at least 5 or 6 first line paddlers at the start. This time, at Duisburg, we had the privilege to see a race that could be not much different from the one we will see at London Games.

Ed McKeever

Here we present today a video about Ed McKeever, one of the big favourites to be the first olympic champion over 200 metres in History, in close fight with Semionovski and other stars of the maximum speed in canoeing.

Adam van Koeverden

We continue today with the videos of the big stars called to sparkle at the Summer Olympic Games at London 2012. Adam van Koeverden is the current K1 1.000 world champion after a terrific performance last year at Szeged. All those who still have that race in mind have to consider him one of the top favourites to the assault of the olympic title that Tim Brabants will defend at home. The Canadian, fun and playful in the video, on the other hand shows his determination during competition, a determination that could make him taste the olympic glory for the second time, after his gold medal in Athens 2004 at the extinguished K1 500.

Eirik Verås Larsen

The Olympic Games are approaching and meanwhile most of the paddlers have to go through tough national trials and then preolympic qualifiers with just some quota places on the table, some others already did their homework during last year's World Champs in Szeged and have earned their right to fight for the medals at Eton Dorney in August. That's the case of Eirik Verås Larsen, Olympic Champion over 1.000 metres at Athens 2004 and who closely saw how Tim Brabants broke the Norwegian dictatorship over that distance for the last two decades. Natural successor of the great Knut Holmann, Eirik shows up his feelings on the course in this nice video.

Umkomaas River Marathon

Next weekend will be raced one of the big events of end of the summer in South Africa, the always spectacular Umkomaas River Marathon. This edition of 2012 looks so far to the sky looking for some rain, as water level seems to be quite low just three days before the start. But it's always a tricky, hard river to paddle and some of its rapids, like "number 1" on the second day, has quickly become legends among river paddlers. You can check at this great video of the 2011 edition why its only name seems scary...

Some weeks ago we showed you an spectacular video trailer about the Five2Nine adventurers, extreme kayak lovers with an impressive webpage. Today it fell in my hands another high quality trailer of a film shot by River-Roots about a bunch of guys looking around the world for the best river waves and kayak spots. "Frontier", which is its title, is the second part of another movie called "Dream Result". Let's start writing Santa's letter...
